Some things worth saving are messy.
The Good MUD Project protects Charleston’s marshes, historic homes, and the stories they hold — before they disappear.
We call it M.U.D.: Making an Unforgettable Difference. Make an unforgettable difference today.
Why It Matters
Pluff mud isn’t pretty. It stains your shoes and smells like the Lowcountry itself. But it’s the foundation of life here — feeding oysters, crabs, marsh grass, and the coast itself.
And it’s disappearing. Rising seas, development, pollution, and neglect are slowly erasing both marshland and Charleston’s historic homes.
Preservation can’t wait — and neither can we.
OUR MISSION
We believe nature and history are inseparable. The Good MUD Project preserves marsh ecosystems and restores historic homes as connected living systems.
Through hands-on conservation, public education, and full transparency in restoration, we protect what makes Charleston — and the Lowcountry — a place worth fighting for.
Every step of our work is open to the public: the wins, the challenges, the craft, the setbacks — so anyone can see how preservation really happens.

The Restoration Project
Our ultimate goal: fully fund and restore a historic Charleston home, and show the entire process from start to finish.
No secrets. No shortcuts. Just real preservation, shared openly with anyone who wants to learn and participate.
This home will be a living example of how history, culture, and ecology can thrive together — a place where people, stories, and land meet. How You Can Help
